Calgary International Airport
Q-SYS PA Platform Design & Programming
Challenge
Calgary International Airport required a comprehensive public address platform capable of managing automated voice messaging, zone-based routing, and priority overrides across a multi-terminal complex. The system needed to accommodate changing operational requirements — gate reassignments, terminal expansions, seasonal traffic variations — without requiring fundamental redesign.
Approach
Peter Lima designed and programmed the complete Q-SYS DSP architecture for the airport's PA system. This included zone logic mapping for the entire terminal complex, automated voice messaging integration, routing architectures that allow operational flexibility, and priority management ensuring emergency messaging overrides all operational audio instantly. The design was built for longevity — structured so that zone changes and operational adjustments can be made within the existing architecture.
Outcome
The system has delivered smooth continual operation since commissioning, with the flexibility to accommodate changing operational needs without system redesign. The Q-SYS platform serves as the backbone of all passenger-facing audio communication across the terminal complex.
